Take your students to disaster school!

Dear educator,

Emergency Preparedness Week happens May 7-13 and we want to help your Grade 6 students think critically about how to get prepared.

PreparedBC’s Master of Disaster program can familiarize students with the hazards that could occur in your community, such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires, and teach vital emergency preparedness skills.

The program’s three core modules encourage students to share information with parents as they prepare their households. When they’re done, they receive an official Master of Disaster certificate.

We’d like to send you Master of Disaster starter kits with classroom resources that meet the new provincial curriculum. They include a teacher’s guide and three core workbooks. Contact PreparedBC to order them for your school.

We’re also excited to tell you that classrooms that complete all three modules could win a visit from the ShakeZone portable earthquake simulator or  BC Wildfire Service firefighters. To enter your class in the draw, let us know how the program helped your students master new emergency preparedness skills. When you contact us, please do not provide any confidential information about students.

We encourage you to share this email with colleagues and others who may be interested in learning more about emergency preparedness education.

Thank you,

The PreparedBC team
